Protestors rally against proposed library cuts

Book lovers of Nottingham gathered at Old Market Square to protest against the Labour-led Nottingham City Council's proposed move to shut three libraries.

The lunchtime protest was organised by local campaign group Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! and started with almost 25 demonstrators before gaining momentum later.

One slogan stated: ‘We don’t want your crocodile tears, save our libraries now’.

Organisers also collected signatures from the public against the council’s proposal.

Harriet Harrison, 26, who is a final year Fashion Knitwear Design and Knitted Textiles student at Nottingham Trent University, created a collection out of litter found on the Kent coast.

The young designer says her project named ‘Sense of Place’ is inspired by her home in Margate.

Closing chapter: Masked booksellers announce plans for final Carlton charity sale in April

Two charity champions will this year hold a final mammoth booksale in Carlton this April to raise cash for local good causes.

ExLibris, who are better known as ‘the masked booksellers’, have held an annual charity book sale at their Carlton home for almost 20 years.

But now Bob and Chris Cann, who organise the event, have announced through their twitter page that they now plan to close down their venture after nearly two decades, with one last sale in April.
